Solved Should I increace RAM?

Usually I operate with quite a few broswer windows open (usually 20 - 30), together with various windows for other programs that I am running.
I'm noticing that my comuter is somewhat slow to respond, and wondered if it would be beneficial to increace my RAM from 4GB to 8GB?
I'm running Win 7 Home Premium 64bit.

Others may disagree but I think it's a good idea to max out a computer's RAM. Or at least install as much extra RAM as can be afforded. Prices are pretty low right now and a 64-bit syst6em will make use of the extra RAM. Just make sure you get the correct RAM for your computer. You could use a Memory Advisor such as this to verify what you need. Then shop around for the lowest price.

It may help you some. I would get some DDR3-2133, your board and CPU will support it. Beyond 8GB usually has no noticeable affect unless you do AutoCAD or atmospheric projections though.

20-30 browser windows, clear answer yes.

modern browsers are resource hungry, believe it or not my primary reason for going 16 gig is due to my multitasking expecially browser windows.

Let us know what you get and how it works for you.

You can run a cmd window and type in winsat mem hit enter and get a reading for your RAM, before and after.

I dunno.

If your PC is doing a lot of paging (using the HD as virtual RAM), more RAM would help. If not, no.

I've now added another 4 GB of RAM and things do seem better - unfortunately, I didn't take a win sat reading before I added it!

If at all possible, and since RAM is sooooo cheap at the moment, 2x4GB kits should be a standard in a pc, desktop or laptop.

We can't tell you based on the information you provided. Most likely, you aren't using the 4 GB now, so the money may be better spent on something like an SSD.

However, you can tell for sure, by checking in your Resource Monitor and your Task Manager. If you haven't been getting low memory error messages, then most likely something else it to blame.
