Solved Should I install x64 or x32 on my configuration and why?

Hi folks!

Intel® Core™ i5 2.450 M (2,50 GHz, 3 MB L3 Cache)
NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 520MX 1GB
4 GB DDR3

I'm not going to upgrade RAM at this point.
I read somewhere that 32bit is good enough for 4GB. Is that correct?

I will use it for browsing, Games ( not heavy), Multimedia, Photoshop (not a photographer, so not professionally).

Hello dzan,

You certainly could install either the 32-bit or 64-bit version if you like. I'd say that it's pretty much just a personal choice with your setup, but 64-bit will allow you to use all 4 GB while 32-bit is actually only using about 3.25 GB even though it sees all 4 GB.

4GB is the max that x86 (32 bit) will support. x64 however will support up to 192MB in w7 pro and above. I think 64 bit machines run faster myself, having both.

Type Resource Monitor into Start Search box, click Memory tab, to see how much RAM is reserved for your hardware. If it's more than a gig then you'll be using all of your RAM with 32 bit.

If you have a 64 bit capable cpu, always install 64 bit.

And max out the memory as sson as possible.

A clean install and maxing out your memory is the best you can do on a laptop. It will really improve the performance.

But maybe you will in the future, and generally it's better to upgrade the RAM to the max, especially if you like to keep a lot of tabs in the browser while doing some multitasking.
And since there isn't a whole lot of difference I'd say go with 64-bit.
Why? 64-bit is (a bit) better, and it's better to acclimate yourself to it now.

You're welcome. I also would add more RAM too since it's not real pricey. I would recommend getting new RAM in a matched kit of, for example, 8GB 2X4GB if your board supports 4GB modules.
