Solved Should I Renew My Eset Nod32 Subscription?

Ive been successfully using Nod32 for probably 10 years — currently protecting 1 PC (WinXP) and two laptoips (Win7 32 bit and 64 bit).

I've heard it said over the last couple of years that Windows Security Essentials was all that anyone needed today, and there was no need to spend $45 +/- per annum for protection.

I'm old, tired and do not have a lot of spare time for learning curves and configuration.

Am I best off just going with my gut and continuing with Eset Nod32?

I am/was a happy Security Essentials user. On my work system, where it is imperative to maintain a clean environment, I installed NOD32. I can tell you that it has flagged more files than Security Essentials. (I store client backups) Also has an email scanner which is OK and it will limit access to potentially bad sites. On some of my other machines I run MSE with Malwarebytes and haven't had any issues.

I usually catch it on sale at NewEgg for about $10. Have also seen the 3 PC version on sale for about $20-25

Definitively stick with ESET! It's probably the best "anti-virus" in detecting PUP/PUA. Other anti-virus products aren't that good in detecting these and that's one of the reasons people complement their anti-virus with MBAM(Malwarebytes Anti-malware), including me.

IMO you can't even compare it to MSE(Microsoft Security Essentials). It's a very simple product that often scores the lowest detection rates in comparison tests.

Your first sentence is one of the best reasons I've read for sticking with Eset. I have Eset Smart Security v8 on my Win 7 x64 system and v7 on my old XP. I think I started with Eset Nod 32 on v2.x installing the updates in version as they came out. I moved to ESS several years ago. No infections, no problems and my system runs fine. In fact it's the only AV that will run on the XP system because of it's limited resources.

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
There really is no need for a paid for antivirus anymore,
MSE is okay but needs help via MBAM premium Not free and about the same as you have,
A better free alternative is Panda cloud and or Panda free antivirus I believe they call themselves now ?

Panda has been very consistent in reviews more so that anything else I've read

Okay! I guess, at least for this go-round, I'm going with the "if it ain't broke ..." line of reasoning. The consensus is that ESET continues to do a good job.

Thanks to you first-responders! It's always frustrating to get onto a forum and ask what's considered a very basic question and have it viewed but not replied to.

For an infrequent visitor jumping into a multi-page thread like "What's the Best AV Software" can be a real rabbit hole. For a lot of folks the ongoing debate and evolution is "the game." But, my wife and I have to be thinking about whether the sheep have fresh pasture and how we're going to pay the next health insurance bill ...it's important that security takes care of itself for the most part.
