I'm currently running Windows Vista Home Basic x32 OEM with 4GB of RAM(have another 4GB that isnt reconized) a 2.66 Quad-Core, ane Radeon HD 3850 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 for video.

I only just recently got Vista on here so I don't really have anything to backup just stuff to restore from my switch from XP Pro.

What do you guys think?

Of course, everyone here would tell you 7 is great. With your memory, you also need a x64 OS. The obvious choice is 7100 RC x64 for you. Enjoy!

You should dual boot. Keep your original Vista and install 7 too. 500 GB is definitely large enough to setup a second partition to install 7 to. Or better yet, with your system being rather nice, a 2nd physical hard drive would be a sound investment for it to install 7 on. You can then benefit from placing the page file, temp/tmp directories and/or user profiles on another drive than where 7 is installed to for a performance increase.

No. I've heard of 1 GB being able to run on 7 x64. I know it's different, but I run all sorts of stuff on x86 with 1 GB and I don't think the pc suffers at all because of it. Sure, more is better but I'm getting along well enough.

If your processor is 64bit capable then use 64bit OS, regardless of how much ram you have.

Your confusing things. Windows 7 64-bit can utilise the full 4gb of ram but its not required to have 4gb. In fact the recommended specifcation from Microsoft is 2gb and above. Obviously the more ram the better.
