Here's my new HTC phone:

It's the one with the latest software update that fixes the overheating issue but it would had scored over 60000 with the previous software. I'd sacrifice 4000 pts rather than risk my phone burning.

how is that phone? i was planning on picking it up friday when its released in stores. my main reasons why im hesitant was #1 overheating issue, #2 battery life, and #3 camera performance. 2, and 3 can be fix with software, but #1, meh.... from reading reviews, all the hardware is there for it to have AMAZING battery life, but something software is bogging it down... i think.

The phone is great IMO and cheaper than other flagships coming out this year. The build is gorgeous but a bit sharp on edges. Weight is fine for my 180lb 5"10 frame but it might be a bit heavy for some especially if they're used to iPhones. Here are my comments with your questions.

1.) Overheating issue is 100% fixed. The HTC feels just as hot as my previous Galaxy S4 on surface running continuous benchmarks. Definitely tolerable on the ears while calling after running multiple benchmarks.

2.) Battery life. I've never had a long lasting smartphone like Droid Maxx, but I can get through the 10-12 hour day of use before recharging. The battery life will really depend on the person and environment but I'm confident that you'll get through the day since 4 cores are only active when doing Facebook, messenger, social apps and web browsing and only goes up to 1.56 GHz rather than 2.5 -2.7 GHz with 801/805.

3.) I can't comment on the camera as I have never owned a DSLR grade camera for reference. But comparing to my point and shoot, at default it under exposes the background but luckily there's an EV setting to compensate. ISO noise is okay but gets grainy like my P and S at 400 iso or above. I set the Megapixel to 16 Megapixel rather than 20. Flash works but slow compared to other phones since it will flash twice before it takes the picture.

Additional info: Smoothest nonrooted and skinned Android phone I've ever used. Almost no FPS drops while scrolling and multitasking.

Right... I'm coming from the m8, still trying to decide if it is worth the update. Thing is, after this phone I don't plan on upgrading for over 2-4 years.

I'd wait for the next iteration with Qualcomm 820 chip I bet. I'm coming from a 2 year old phone so to me it's worth it. Speed is amazing on this phone. I also liked the S6, but its UI is too kiddie looking to me and it's still slightly laggier (not on loading apps but on scrolling) than Sense on M8 and M9 despite the "slimmer" look.

Yea, but it will be a year until then. I was also looking into the m9+ its being unveiled Wed. I agree with Samsung. I hate touchwiz.

Idk, I think the devolopment community for this phone will be huge! So I was thinking that most of the issues will be solved with roms and kernels.
