Well I got the 2 small fans installed and the dust covers, it was very strenuous, I will have to take a break, my back hurts

I know how you feel. My hip as been acting up when I stand one place and after I have been walking for a while. I need to do a little work on my machine and have been waiting for the latest insults from body to settle down. Hope you feel better soon.

I can see one of the small fans but the other one must be microscopic since I can't see it. Come on, where did you hide it?

I like those dust covers. I wonder if Asus sells them separately? All the PCIe dust covers I've seen don't look as nice and are sold in kits. I would have to buy two kits to get the covers I want and not be able to use most of what I paid for. That just galls my cheap side.

Looking good Brian. I found the fan in the middle of the board hard to get the wires hidden, the back one went in fine.

No, the visible one site on top of the TUF armor.

Well that is what I am saying lol when I installed my board one area where the fan goes I just figured one fan was good enough it pretty much looks the same

The other fan is right below the red circle, it has a top that covers it. But if you looked in through the io shield you would see it.

To clarify. I replaced the supplied 35mm fan with a Noctua 40mm and allow it to run full speed, it's quiet. The other one I set to run at 80% full speed and turns off below 30C board temp. The ASUS fans run at over 7000RPM.

Still makes no difference in temps for me anyways but when ever I get a chance I might go ahead and do that

I just figured it would be a lot easier to put them in before I installed the MB in the case.

Well, guts/Gal it's Halloween and I just received my first Trick or Treater.



Whether it's a Trick or a Treat is yet to be determined. But, all this talk about the fans has made me wonder. When they first came out with the thermal armor, Asus said it was to keep the heat away from the components of the board. Now, they give us fans to blow the heat from beneath the thermal Armor. Really? What marketing gimik will they feed us next? But, it really does not matter, it is a very good board. Being a good reliable board it all that is needed to sell it.

I`m not crazy about the idea of pulling air AND DUST into the MB, I may flip that one around.

I tend to agree, I love the look of the armor but with the fans pulling dust and it being deposited all over the board how do you really keep it clean? Sure you can blow it out some but it seems to me like it's going to trap more dust and heat over the long run. Really like the looks !

Gary, are you saying the Asus supplied 35mm fan runs at 7000rpm all the time? Mine idle at 3700rpm, and always have. They will spool up to 7000-ish under full load though.

Kelly is the longest owner of the Z77 Sabertooth. I think I have only had mine for maybe 4 or 5 months.

I can't hear them at all. I know some people pitched a fit with the first gen Sabertooth's because of the noise. I don't hear them at any RPM........what noise they make is covered up by the 200mm and 120mm fan.

I have had my Sabertooth since May of 2012, and have been running with an OC since then as well.

Sounds great almost 2 years now

I had gotten my AMD Sabertooth round the same time excellent MB with quality parts

One of the reasons I kicked MSI to the curb but my Dad seems to be working with my old MSI just fine of course he isn't doing none of the stuff I am doing

As for the fans my Corsair SP's make more airflow but sounds like a heavy blower

No, when the temps reaches my pre-set threshold it will, but there is a setting to limit the top speed of all the fans in percentages. I saw one of the assist fans at 7587RPM in BIOS once, sounded like a tiny jet engine. The Noctua's full speed it 3500RPM and I can't hear it at all.

Steve, are you replacing the Maximus board?
