Let me be clear on this, until it happened to me I frankly could not believe it. But is is true. My board is a regular $90 nothing fancy motherboard. It is almost 3 years old and failed and I got someone else's deffective part. I know this for sure as I stuck copper heatsinks on the mosfets and I had used a Hyper 212 and did not fit the AM3 bracket back on. The only reason I am not doing anything about it is another $25 on shipping for a 3 year old board and add $50 to it and I can buy a new board. I have already replaced the board with a sabertooth. The failure rate of Asus boards is low but when you need them to help they send you a worse board that frankly is no more use than the board that did not boot. I won't be so blase about my Sabertooth boards as they cost a lot more money.

And the OCN post is 4 years old, so ASUS hasn't tried very hard on the support end. Thus far I have no experience with ASUS support, but I have RMA'ed several boards to Amazon till I got good ones.

I'd like to mention 2 companies who in my experience, are stellar with support.
Corsair and G.Skill.

Corsair insisted I return a PSU for RMA to try to solve an issue (it didn't the problem was a POS ASrock board) They sent me a new sealed PSU. I bought use Corsair RAM which they replaced as well.

It's rare to get bad G.Skill RAM but I did, so RMA'ed it per their instructions. They were out of the same model so sent me a better, faster kit as a replacement.

Gary, you need to throw EVGA in there. They have excellent support. Believe it or not, I even had a tech support call me back at 9PM on a Sunday night to see if the problem was resolved. Now, that's good tech support.

Gary, agree with you on GSkill have had 2 matched sets develop errors that only showed up in testing, no BSOD, returned them and got new RAM back from CA in less than a week. Excellent service. Gigabyte replaced my 3 year old GT9800 silent card that failed on the second RA with a new board of my choice and it was a better card. Very impressed.

I just pulled the trigger on 2 x 8 @ 2400mhz. Team Xtreem. I'll let everyone know how this works out but I'm thinking a new major player has hit the ram scene.

Alan do keep us apprised of the Team RAM. I was looking at some of their USB flash drives and they don't do very well.

Lifetime warranty to original purchaser as well as a price 2/3 's of anyone else and it looks cool and was also faster timed out of the box. I'm hoping what I read from users turns out to be the case as a huge majority said they worked and performed great !

OK, getting back on track....

Upgraded my back-up system - http://www.sevenforums.com/pc-custo...779-show-us-your-rig-6-a-107.html#post2643032 but it's currently operating on a 550 watt PS which is kind of meager for that system.

Anyway I'm an Antec fan but I'm willing to look at other offerings. What I'm looking for is at least a 750 with a fan pointing towards the back (if possible). It doesn't have to be top of line, but it can't be cheap - I'll go somewhere around $150 ish.

I did look at the SeaSonic Platinum 860W, but $190 is a bit more than I'm willing to spend on a backup system.

Now before you guys, and gals, beat me up about skimping on a PS. I agree, and I'm not; I'm just looking bang for buck for a backup system.

Yeah, I could justify spending more money by upgrading my current PS in my main rig which is an Antec SG-850, and moving it to the backup, but it is an extremely good power supply with no issues. Plus I'm not ready to give it up as I really like it's performance and styling.

So yeah, I'm looking for a good power supply the backup system - nothing fancy, nothing cheap; and it doesn't have to be fully modular.

Curious to hear what you guys (and gals) think...

A roll bar that'll roll on my nerves. It's got to go if I get that power supply. BTW the price point really does make it look attractive for what it's offering. Wonder what the 850 goes for, if there is one.

Nah, I prefer the EVGA over the XFX. In addition to performance, I also like styling, and that XFX doesn't have it.

Also, as I said, it doesn't have to be fully modular.

I've never tried one, but I hear the EVGA Super Nova is a very good model. No bar, Drew, a Platinum rating and 10 year warranty, fully Modular. I don't believe it gets much better than that. Also a 9.7/10 rating from Johnny Guru.
