I'm gonna try one more time to ask the question I registered here to ask...;)
Does the size of installed memory have anything to say when it comes to Memory WEI?
Make a new thread in the proper subforum asking such and it will definitely be answered :)

my laptop drive scored 4.5 post #603

as for the amount of ram affecting your WEI, it did have a large play factor in b7000 as the scoring system would limit it if you had 4gb or less. but now with the 7057 and up they removed that limitation and so we get to see our true score with just 4gb of ram, so i dont think the amount of ram has much factor in it as it did before. as it uses the 'winsat mem' command it just tests the bandwidth speed, but with that said im not sure what speeds you need to get certain scores.
for example: my 4gb 2x2 1800mhz ddr3 at 8/7/6/15/2T timing has a transfer bandwidth of about 8600mb/s, WEI rates its at 7.5.

before i was running b7000, with it limited to 5.9 in x64, x32 i think limited it to 5.5? (cant really remember what x32 was tbh)

alot of people are getting 7.5 now, take Sandeep here for example, i dont know the specs but it looks like 4gb 2x2 ddr2 1066, scoring 7.4 in WEI. in beta7000 x64 that would have been 5.9 WEI.

that should help with your Q with WEI and memory ratings Magnus.

good luck.

upgrade your grfx cards is the only way. maybe some of the new GT212's when they are out.

nice score on your i7 tho, you should clock it up a bit more....say 4ghz, see what you get then just for the benchmark?

you can o.c. those cards all day, but it wont make any difference with your wei. i got my 2 9800gx2's running at 750/1100/1800 and the stock clocks are 600/1000/1500 and it wont make any difference with my wei. its the overall graphics card that makes the difference in wei. thats why i mentioned the GT212. that should bump up the podium.

I did get it up to 6.6 with new drivers and percision OC 700/1500/1200
And increased Hard Drive from 7.2 to 7.5, but I think thats going to be all I can get short of new technology coming out on the video side, or switching to the intell SSD's on the HD side, I'm using the 7.000 64 bit version that microsoft released, and waiting on RC1, I dont down load leaked stuff unless I know the source.

I just went from integrated graphics to a cheap 9500GT card and my score went from 3.0 to 4.5. Not a bad jump for $65. (no screenshot - at work)

On build 7077 my score jumped to 4.6...something to note.

I guess it's the same reason Vista only went to 5.9 instead of 10, who knows.

The higher the score , the more it costs to move up, and the less bang you get for the buck. IE: it's easier to go from a 3 to a 4 than it is to go from a 5 to a 6, and dam near impossable to go from a 6 to a 7.

Quote "Anyone know why it only goes up to 7.9 and not a round number like 10?"
____________________________________________________________________

According to a quote from microsoft, the hardware field is constanly changing, and what it would take to get a 10 today wouldn't be a 10 tomorow, so they implemented a system that they are going to review every 18 to 28 months. they said they didn't want to go with a set # because they didn't want to move the bar every time they came out with a new product, by increasing the score they dont have to change the earler specifications. It probably will be a a score of 1-10 next time microsoft releases a OS, around 2012.

Quote: (from Vista Welcome screen/performance/What do these #'s mean)
"The base scores currently range from 1 to 5.9. The Windows Experience Index is designed to accommodate advances in computer technology. As hardware speed and performance improves, higher base scores will be introduced. However, the standards for each level of the index stay the same. For example, a computer scored as a 2.8 will remain a 2.8 unless you decide to upgrade the computer's hardware.
