Shrink volume

I want to shrink volume c: and extend volume e: , but problem is that I can shrink volume c: just for 3879(3.5gb)

Is there any workaround?
I know there are some programs, but I never used any of them, so if there is easy one, please write it down.


pm: If anybody have problems with: "Volume disk manager wont start..", enable Disk Defragmenter too...

You can shrink with Partition Wizard.

If you want to use the Windows disk management, try disabling hibernation and the page file and defrag.

To disable hibernation: Open a command prompt as admin and enter powercfg -h off.

If I copy my pagefile to another partition and then copy it back, will it work like before ?

No, just disable it completely. You can always enable it again when you are done.

Well, now I can shrink it for 10gb, its better but I wanted more. Dont bother.

Use Partition Wizard bootable CD. This way you can go back in if it fails, as Resizing operations can sometimes do.

Back up your files and a Win7 Backup Image externally so you can start over if necessary.

Related question, as I can't shrink my C: as small as I would like it.

Is there a way to confirm which system file(s) are keeping the drive from shrinking as much as I would like? Is it always the page file?

Also, I did shrink my C: and added a D: and relabeled my Rescue partition as E: Is there any issue with this?

If I shrink my C: smaller, are there any specific issues with expanding my D: to take advantage of the additional free space?

It's often the paging file and hibernate file that cannot be moved.

It's a good idea to defrag afterward,

Yes, the tool to move System Files out of the way for shrinking is Perfect Disk 10 trial. Use Defrag for compactness first, then rightclick drive and Offline Defrag for System Files.

What is the REscue Partition you are referring to? A Recov partition that came with factory installed Win7? If you clean installed or reinstalled Win7 it may have disabled Recovery. You can cue it up to see if it is willing to run, either from the OS or boot - use steps given in Manual.
