Hi,
A few days ago I installed windows 7.. all was well for a few hours till my screen started to go kinda glitchy then just black and pc froze.. I have been reading some forums on these pc symptoms and it seems to be my graphics driver( Readon x600) my pc is a Dell Dimension 5150 anyone here have any insight as to what might be conflicting with windows 7? if indeed it is a driver problem?
thanks:)

Can diagnose if it is a driver conflict by booting into safe mode(F8) it works then but not normally is probably a conflict that can be addressed in msconfig.

Reboot your PC and repeatedly press F8, then choose Safe Mode. Update the driver from there - if you can find one.

Install this:

For x64: ATI Catalyst? Legacy Display Driver

For x86: ATI Catalyst? Legacy Display Driver

Install in compatibility mode for Vista SP1. Uninstall the old drivers first and then run driver sweeper. To uninstall, run the right installer above for your architecture and then reboot, run Driver Sweeper, and re-run the installer.
Is compatibility mode = safe mode? and what do you mean by Vista SP1? I'm one of those annoying people that have to be taken through this type of stuff step by step:rolleyes: warning!! warning!! I may ask more questions...:o

Yes, the built-in uninstaller will do it. And yes to your other questions.

ok something is different even though the install to me looks like it didnt finish.... the original text in driver info is:
RADEON X600 series secondary
It now reads:
ATI RADEON X300/X550/X1050 Series Secondary
did it install fully? as i got a fatal error when it was last installing but the driver info tells me the new driver is there? im confused:confused:

I got it working (I think) lol I forgot to say I went from XP to Windows 7 so instead of doing:

2) Right click the installer, choose the compatibility tab then Vista SP1. Apply.

I changed the "Vista SP1" to:

Right click the installer, choose the compatibility tab then "XP Sp2". Apply.

and did a nortons 3D Graphics performance test (which failed every time before this) and now I have done it 5 or 6 times and it runs smooth and no black screen or freezing :D So fingers crossed I have seen the last of that Issue:cool: thanks again for your help.. I will keep you posted as to any more trouble (if any) I get with this past issue:)
