Each time i shut down windows 7, it pops up with the screen that these programs prevent windows from shutting down. Well the programs are: winlogon.exe, ComPtc.exe, compptcvui.exe. I want to know what are these programs, and how can i prevent then from popping up each and every time i shut down my computer?

Than you for the help, this has been solved.

Do you have some type of fingerprint scanner installed on that computer? If so that could be causing your problems.

About virus/anti spyware

Thank you for all the advice. But i installed windows 7 a week ago, and i had vista before and there where none of these errors before. And i aint some kind of idiot that just download everything i think sounds cool or something. I got antivirus, norton internet security 2010 and i scan everything. Wouldn't they pop up in vista if it where a trojan or any other kind of virus. What can i do with the compptcvui.exe or whatever it was called, the finger validating program, how can i prevent that from popping up? I think winlogon was because i forced my computer to automatic login. How can i make it login automatic without having to go through some advanced configure. Someting like run-> control userpassword 2 -> enable atomatic login. I have tryed removing password, but it still wants me to click my username, although there aint any other users. And the comptc.exe, i will try to shutdown and see if its called compc.exe. If it is compc.exe what can i do to prevent that? I ran the malware thing and there where 0 infections, aswell my anti virus says.
Hope you can help me :D sorry for my not so good grammatic english, i'm from denmark

I think you're okay then. You can look in Services and see if any of these are running (except winlogon), right click the program/file, choose properties and set it to manual. Stop the program from running and test what's actually been stopped. You can always restart it again.

Also, see if this helps with a faster shutdown .... right click on the taskbar to pull up Task manager. Click on 'explorer'.exe, then stop the process. Now shut Windows down. Did the messages still pop-up?

You guys are barking up the wrong tree. the OP's NIS2010 is fine for protecting his PC. Some processes are simply active at shutdown time; hence the messages at shutdown. I've seen this occur on many machines with a variety of programs including MS processes. Everyone just RELAX a bit--the messages aren't an indication of impending doom!

Once upon-a-time, back when I was running 98SE, I had Norton/Symantec as my antivirus program. I could not shut that computer down if I didn't completely stop Norton from running.
Once I ended it, then and only then was I able to turn off my computer.

Some programs don't get the hint that you really do want to close up shop for the night.

You are right about some programs not taking the "hint". Something (I don't pay much attention) on one of my wife's PC's keeps it from shutting down from time to time and she's got nothing at all unusual loaded on her very vanilla installation of XP.

Norton is VERY well behaved nowadays. The last two versions have seen some huge improvements in it's installation time and behavior. I have no qualms about recommending either NIS or NAV to anyone running Windows. Even the mainstream rags have come to recognize the improvements and now give it high marks.

Thank you for realising that, but it's a bit anoying that i just cant press shut down, and close my laptop and then let it do it itself.

It made it shutdown faster alright, but compptcvui.exe still popped up. But it removed the other messages

I have now solved everything myself, but thank you all for the help. I just uninstalled my finger protecetion, and followed a microsoft guide to automatic login without bugs.

I'm with Dave on this one. On occasion, I see that screen and its just that some programs and services are still working/running and it just wants to warn you that you could lose data, etc by closing/stopping them before they finish.

When you shut down Windows it tells all the running applications to close and they should shut themselves down gracefully and cleanly. If they don't, Windows has to try and force them to close. That's when you get what Norton used to do, with the Ending Task message dialogue.

I used to use Norton (before I saw sense!) many moons ago and had the same issue.

I kind of agree with you on this. I have been getting the same problem but with different named processes and I just do a forced shutdown which is nothing more than Windows executing a "Kill" on the offending processes. It will not hurt a thing to just let Windows force it down.

Norton's products are vastly superior to their earlier incarnations. Now it makes sense to use one of their virus products, rather than to avoid them, unless one prefers to pay ZERO for a virus program and go with Avast or other freebie. Your failure to recognize the current versions of Norton A/V products for their superiority over earlier versions leads to comments of ignorance such as you just uttered. Don't believe me? Go do your research.
