Shutting down

Hi just built a comp asus sabertooth x58 mb i7 950 wd hd 1tb 64mb cash sata600/6g .ocz psu 500watt nvidia 9800gt . what i have going on is if I leave the comp on just let it stand. when i come back after a few hours the comp is off.I hit the power button it come on to the boot in safe mode or start windows normal, the comp is 2 weeks old and for fans cpu is stock, 200mm on top, 120s on frt, side, and rear

It sounds like you just need to adjust your Power Profile to do what you want.

Right-click Desktop > Personalize > Screen Saver > Change power settings.

That's really up to you, and what you prefer and how you use the system. I don't use sleep or hibernate, because I turn my computer off when I'm done with it at night. My tower uses the High Performance profile. I have no screensaver, but I shut the monitor off after 15 minutes. I have the hard drives set to never shut off, either.

Is it happening when it goes to sleep? Do you have SP1 and is your C: drive controller use a SCSI drive (like the Marvell or JMicron SATA controllers)? If so, then that is a bg in SP1 and there is a hot fix for it.
Let me know and I will point you to the hot fix.

yes i have sp1 and i am told the sata3 is the 6g and it uses the marvell controler i have a wd 1tb 64mb cash sata 600/ 6g
this is from asus Intel ICH10R controller

Do you have a link or some info about this bug? I'd like to read some info on it, and see if I have any affected systems I need to be aware of.

Disable hibernation or hybrid sleep mode in your power management advanced options (for hybrid sleep -> Hybrid sleep mode -> disable) or use the hotfix below.

There is a bug in SP1 that if you boot with a drive with a SCSI miniport driver, hibernation (and hence hybrid sleep) do not work and neither does taking a crash dump on the resulting STOP, hence the shutdown.

There is a Microsoft hotfix. I have the link in the post below. I have used it and it fixed my system, but as always, make a restore point or backup first.
