There are games that will not lie down and die, the remake of the 1987 classic Pirates, to my mind, is one of them. I have it working perfectly on Win 8, but it reports that dll - msvcp71.dll - is missing on my Win 7 x 64 laptop. Why? I found and installed the dll into win 7 but still no joy. I even tried the cmd command regsvr32 (dll name) with no joy.

So why Win 8 x 32 and not Win 7 x 64???

Because there's no 16bits support on x64 systems if i'm right, while you do have 16 bits support on x32 systems

You may want to try DOSbox for your game on x64 systems, if it doesn't work for your game, you can make a virtual machine running XP since XP run most of the old games.

If you have Windows 7 Ultimate x64, Microsoft have an "easy" solution for you to run XP on a virtual machine, a guide is avaliable on this website to set up the virtual machine.

If your problem is solved, i think you can add the "Solved" prefix to the thread by editing the first post.

there is a win 7 fix for this, and the game is one of those listed, which I downloaded but it will not run, could be corrupt so will try later
