When I try to install this new Silverlight update that was released yesterday, I lose my Internet Access. Windows cannot detect the problem when I try and diagnose the problem. I have not idea what is causing the issue. I have reset my router and modem and that didn't help. I am sure that this is the problem. Any ideas? How important is this update?

I use Norton.
When I tried to diagnose the problem with the Windows connection manager, wouldn't it have detected faulty hardware. I had to system restore to remove the update. I say that because I am on the same PC now and my network adapter is working fine.

I would have to reinstall the update and then check for and error because right now it is working properly. I don't believe this is covered in that trouble shooting page because as far as I can see it is not temporary.

I can't say Norton isn't doesn't have a role in the problem, but the update is downloading and installing fine, until I finalize it with a reboot. After the reboot, I have lost my connection.

There was 3 other updates and I had to restore twice to narrow down which update was causing the conflict. One was an IE update and the other 2 updates were Windows 7 updates. They were all released yesterday.

I apologize for any ambiguity, I am tired. :/

So hide these updates and don't install them and I recommend to contactct with MS to report this issue.

Sound advice. I am hoping this is an isolated problem, because this update was just released.

And if you disable Norton and any other anti-whatever software you have running, does the problem go away?

Also have an Asus ha1002xp netbook with Win 7 Ultimate installed.
I don't know, I don't want to reinstall it and find out. But what good would it do if I can't run my Antivirus after the update, just so I can connect to the net?

I didn't say uninstall, simply disable all of your ant-software to see if that is the cause of the problem. You wouldn't be the first to have this solve the problem.

If that solves the problem, them I recommend the best anti-virus/anti-malware/firewall software available which also is free and used by the majority of us who answer quetions here, namely, Microsoft Security Essentials.
Microsoft Security Essentials Virus, Spyware & Malware Protection

I meant I don't want to reinstall the update and have to system restore again if I can't figure out what the problem is. Also, I have money invested in Norton, so I will not be changing AV software.

Ok, so it turns out that Windows auto-installed it when i went to bed. When I rebooted today, I lost connection again. This time, I turned off all of Norton and reset my router and modem. This did not fix the problem. I just did recovered (every recovery has been unsuccessfully completed, with an unspecified error 0xc0000022, but it does remove the Silverlight update, which has given me back internet access) to prior the update again. Should I try and install the Silverlight with Norton off?
