Similar No Restore Points Problem

Like the others in this thread, I discovered that my Win 7 64-bit system is not saving system restore points after I've rebooted or shut the system off. I've verified that system protection is turned on, triggers are active and working to generate restore points, and I am able to manually create them. I've also increased the allocated space for the restore points to 15% of my hard drive (50GB of hard drive remains unused). However, after restore points have been created - by trigger or manually - as soon as the system is restarted the restore point(s) are gone.

Here's the info from my current command prompt query using the vssadmin commands, reflecting the triggered restore point created several minutes ago (sorry, couldn't figure out how to capture the cmd screen to include as an attachment):

However, once I reboot my system, the above restore point will have vanished.

In response to other similar threads in these 7 Forums on the failure to retain system restore points, I've deactivated CCleaner from running at startup and unchecked all of CCleaner's registry checks and its emptying of the Recycle Bin. I've also run system scans by my virus checker, resulting in no viruses or other suspected activity found.

Still, my system restore points remain available only until I restart my system.

This solution works sometimes and sometimes it does not. Type System Restore in help and support. Get instructions on how to turn it off; follow instructions. Then turn off your computer, boot up and turn on SR. Let us know. Also, sometimes there is a conflict with the Anti Virus, check that out too.

Try formatting the Backup Drive.

Try typing cmd in search, from an administrator account. Once in cmd, type sfc /scannow.
Finally, many have had success with a repair. Put Win7 DVD in drive and do a upgrade(now it is a repair. Follow all these instructions and you will be have SR back.

FIXED! The System Restore turn off-reboot-turn on did not fix the problem, my external hard drive had already been reformatted to NTFS from its orignal FAT32, and the sfc /scannow didn't identify any problems.

However, after performing a Win 7 repair, the System Restore points are now retained after reboots and shutdowns. HOORAY!!!

Rich...Ill try this, I am thinking its probably the next step. Turning off, reboot, then back on and making a restore point only made it disappear again when I rebooted again. Or is there something else I should wait on? We can use this thread to help people further I suppsoe or keep it in PM, your choice.

Turning off does make all restore points vanish. My suggestion is to turn if off, boot up, turn it back on, and they try to make a point and see if it is there after boot.

If that does not work, I would suggest a repair.

Looks like its time for a repair then. I have to go run some errands for the evening, will have time in the AM so I will report back tomorrow. Thanks again! Im hoping that works since its not a problem of virus/malware at least.
