Looking for a way to set up a simple wireless network. I have windows 7 on two work laptops, and one desktop server. I would like to avoid using a homegroup as it won't let me map a network drive (which I want to do because I had filepath problems when working through a homegroup and opening files through certain programs). The Network should be password protected too if possible.

Thanks for your help!

Really easy. When setting up the new network use "workgroup" instead of homegroup. It is the old fashioned way that we are used to. Its also more stable on some systems.

how do I go about putting a password to protect the network or does that have to be done at the router? I would like it so that it is password protected to get in once, but once you are in, you don't have to keep putting in a password to go back and access files
