So I loaded the System Info for Windows, and I was browsing through the tabs and opened Memory and it that the max memory for my laptop was 8 GB's, but I think I read some where that Hp said it was only use up to 4 GB's, so before I go out and buy more ram for my PC how do I know that the software is not corrrect ???

Hey this software gives false info about memory slots, capacity and speed. My laptop supports 4 GB but it shows just 2 GB.

If your computer is cabible of running 64 bit 8 gigs will come in handy. If 32 dont bother the computer can only access 3.3 of 4gigs. to verify which go here GRC*|*SecurAble: Determine Processor Security Features*|** and dl the free utility. it will tell you.

Hope this helps

Ken

I have used this before but it really did not tell me much about my max memory Ken, but it is 64 bit the DEP hardware yes and the other virtual hardware no.

A little off topic, but are you 64bit guys truly experiencing the benefit of the 64bit processor? Or, on some days, you feel like going back to 32bit? And why? Anyone running 32bit os on 64bit proc, and what are your experiences with that setup?

i installed 64bit os for the 1st time. i can see an improvent in terms of file copying, stability, performance and better utilization of resources. go for 64 bit, you wont regret it. ;)

I also am the first time running 64 bit and I must say it is better then 32 bit, so if you have a 64 bit processor then use it like it should be used, but you have to think about the programs that you have and see if they well run with 64 bit. just look around the forums and you will find your answer.

I would run 64 bit OS.

Oh I know that 64bit is a definite improvement in performance. I see so many users haveing compatability issues with drivers and apps, it does make me want to wait a while. The one thing that stands out as a pro, is the fact that viruses are not to common for 64bit os systems. Most of them are written for 32bit systems. I keep thinking that I might go with a 32bit quad core proc with a large fsb, 4gb of memory, and that should provide enough power to do what I want. But, I will wait a while to see if the compatibility issues get worked out. I still want to see what you guys have to say.

I don't want to seem like a post police. but,,,

You hijacked the thread, and things can get confusing with what the OP is having issues with.

Please start a new thread. Also, the 64bit debate has been absolutely discussed to death, please use the search function and you will get every answer to your question without posting a thing.

Thanks.

To answer both questions though....

OP...
I use several system info tools for different reasons,,,
but I have not tested these in 7.

These 2 are from CPUID...
CPU-Z
PCWizard - Also gives a wealth of information.

GPU-Z
BgInfo
SIW - Does give a wealth of information anyway.
SysInspector - by ESET

It all depends on what info I am looking for and which one I decide will run better or which way the wind is blowing that day.

On the 64bit issue.... please let this be the last post about this in this thread....
Search the forums,, there is already a wealth of info about this....
64bit is much better as long as all the software you use works under 64bit.
I found that Happauge winTV (regardless of what I do) does not work under 64bit, so I can not run 64bit OS. But am looking for an alternative so that one day I can. Everything should be 64bit now. 32bit should have been dead when Vista Released.
