Size of Windows 7 x64 Install... 35GBs?

I just installed x64 on my 64GB SSD and was shocked to see that I only had 24GB free after the x64 installation!

I thought that x64 was only supposed to be 20GB or so? I did a clean custom installation (double installation method) using an upgrade disk and made sure to format the drive before installing. I just wanted to verify that x64 does indeed take this amount of space (35GB). Else, the format disk option didn't work properly...

If you formatted the drive before the first Win7 installation but not before the second, I imagine that a windows.old was created.

Use the disk cleanup utility to delete it.

My Win7 X64 folder is approx. 16GB.

How much RAM do you have? If it is in the GB range, you will have to add to the count a couple of gigs of pagefile (swap file), which is superhidden from your view. If you have enabled hibernation, throw in another couple of gigs for the hibernation file, also superhidden.

I think that would account for your numbers - if you have 4-6 GB of RAM.

I have 16gb's or RAM so I took the pagefile down to 1GB which was one of the problems. I also disabled hibernation under the power options, as you suggested and deleted the shadow copies/disk cleanup. Now, my install is down to 20GB.

Not super hidden

But also whne using a SSD as a caching disk remember ssd drives are limited more so for how many read and writes it gets out of its life then a regular hard drive.

SSDs are more durable than most people think. The writes they can take before wearing out are in TB.
