Is your LiveID of the type "@msn.com"? I believe it only works for "@hotmail.com".

I tried this instead: How-To Map Skydrive Using A URL Address which says "Once you’ve logged in the URL in the address bar should change to a cid-######.skydrive.live.com format. Copy the # part after cid-." But it doesn't. The address is of this format: https://skydrive.live.com/?lc=<4digits>

...It works for me.
The page you linked to says:
"Just need to map the following, nothing else is needed. \\docs.live.net@SSL\yourcid\Documents or Public, Music, Pictures etc. at the end or just "yourcid" at end so you can see all the folders from Windows Explorer/My Computer without the need for Skydrive viewer or WebDav."

How do we obtain the "yourcid" number? (I don't see it in the url when I log in at the skydrive website.)

How do we obtain the "yourcid" number?

Go into SkyDrive, right click on My Files and copy the link address. Paste it into Notepad and its the bit following #cid=. Don't include the #cid=

Ah yes. I'm using a Chrome App these days and don't have the address bar displayed. I actually stopped using the explorer method a while ago because it took some time to connect at startup and locked up My Computer until it did.

Speaking of uploading, files I put there a long time ago are still there but the "add files" button doesn't do anything now. So I tried the new Explorer interface and found I could upload a 1KB file but a 49KB file gives the error: "The file <filename> is too large for the destination file system." It says I have 25GB availlable! (I doubt if the my filenames contain too many characters since they are fairly short.)

The add files link opens a standard Windows dialogue for me but you can also drag files into the open folder to upload. I uploaded 10MB in 4 photos yesterday using this method. I am not aware of any size limit on the explorer approach except perhaps the windows path length limit.
