Just depressing...Saw that for Skylake and the refreshed one performances.

Lucky that I'm starting only to think about a new build and hardware components. Our low exchange rates have raised the computer parts prices around here and i hope by the time it will smoothly become to more affordable.

Leaked, not confirmed.

The S series is the top of the line LGA desktop models, using a standard 1151 pin socket.

H, U, and Y will be mobile and/or lower TDP. Ball Grid Array (BGA), not LGA.

I haven't kept up with Broadwell due to having my eye on Skylake, but.....I think Broadwell desktop is pretty much being skipped for desktop. I think there may be a couple of Broadwell SKUs that will be usable on a desktop, but they will have a short shelf life. Broadwell seems to be mostly mobile.

I read a thread somewhere on the topic and there was some dispute about what the term "desktop" necessarily meant.

So I`m glad I got a Z87, it looks like a Z97 would be a total waste of money if you`re not gonna be able to purchase a Broadwell C socket 1150.

I mean does anyone use sata express yet, I`ve read that it`s still in the future, so what`s the benefit of it, i know it`s sata 3.2 but does it connect just the same as sata ?

Skylake will be LGA 1151, I guess they can`t make a 14 NM cpu to go in a 1150 socket or is it just another money making idea by Intel.

I don't know anyone using a SATA express drive and haven't dived deeply into it. Near as I can tell, it's in its infancy and doesn't offer much yet.

But I have no intention of buying another SSD for the next few years regardless, unless my existing one breaks down. The next one would be a 1 TB minimum at probably $150 or less; preferably under $100. Otherwise I'm not interested. It's going to take years to get to that price level anyway and maybe SATA express will be worth a look then. Until then, I'll use a spinner for data.

But I intend to build a Skylake by the end of the year. Looks like Win 10 will be the biggest decision about it and I'm not excited about what I read regarding licensing, upgrades, and updates. So, I may stick with 7 on the new PC and maybe eventually buy 10 in a year or two, to hell with the "free upgrade".

Here's a benchmark I found, comparing the Skylake i7-6700K to the 4790K.

Single thread and multi-thread.

I don't know anything about this "Geekbench" benchmark or how representative of the real world it might be.

4 to 8 percent improvement with a 4.5% lower clock speed (4.2 versus 4.4). Might run a little cooler.
