Hi everyone,

Just need to know if whether or not it is normal for Windows Update to include an update for skype among the list of updates.

I've already hidden this skype update as I had planned to uninstall skype for so long but kept forgetting to do it.

Any comments and ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thank you all and God Bless,

Ye - it's normal, since MS bought Skype a few months ago, it's now part of the Microsoft Update family, along with Office and MSE

Yes noticed that came through the other day being an MS product now.
I downloaded and applied and it updated the previous version without any issues. Nice!

Skype update unwanted

I do not have Skype on this computer and had unchecked the update in the update window, but when I turned off the computer it was installed anyway.
Should I uninstal it?

Also, is it necessary to do more than uncheck a particular update to prevent it from being installed? I had never tried this before.

It shouldn't have been installed without permission - yes, uninstall it, and next time it's offered, hide it instead of just unchecking it.

Noel, thank you for your quick reply.. I will uninstall. How do you "hide" It?

right-click on the entry in the Windows Update listing - unfortunately that will only last until the next update to the offering, but MS usually plays the white man and doesn't update every month :)

Yesterday I reinstalled windows for a friend who got hit by a nasty rootkit leaving the computer useless, after wiping the disk with 0's, and performing the clean install, windows update among the 100+ updates suggested to install Skype...go figure.

Why couldn't you unhide it?
If you've uninstalled Skype completely, then the update shouldn't be offered :)
If you want to install Skype again, then..... Get Skype - Download free - Install Skype to call, video call and IM

Thank you again so much Noel and please accept my sincere apologies for being a jerk. I've just checked my list of installed programs in Control Panel, and found out that it's not there. Because I couldn't remember un-installing it except saying that I will, I tried looking for that update to unhide it without even the slightest bit of thought to check first whether or not it is still sitting in programs.

Now I believe I should leave IT-socializing/scavenging to home because dealing with it while at work seemed to mess up my head.

Heaps of thanks again and God Bless,

It's easy to get lost in the maze - I do it every day! - so don't worry about it.

Good luck!
