Hello,

When my computer running (win7 64 bit) tries to sleep I have found that Windows cannot sleep but it freezes the computer and I get white noise from the speakers. The keyboard or mouse do not work. The only thing I can do is do a restart by pressing the restart button. It hasn't actually blue screened so there is no error report and it is hard to pin down what the error is. A restart error is given in critical errors but no more information than that.

I have made sure all of my hardware drivers are completely up to date, checked power settings in the BIOS and turned off various settings in SandyBridge settings. I am at a loss as to what the problem is.

Has any one seen this problem before?

Thanks,

Nevica

My Computer, choose the local drive that you have OS install on. It's usually driver C. Right-click on it, select Property. Go to Tool tab above. Then click "Check now".

Sorry. I thought it should be understandable. I'm a programmer, PC builder so I know all these stuff.

EDIT: If you run disk check and still experiencing problem. I'm afraid this is a sign of a weakening power supply. So you might want to invest in a new one.

Could you tell me more about this problem? How are the two (the power supply and HDD) related to this problem?.

Its a fairly new (only 8 months old) power supply. Its a Cooler Master 700W Silent Pro Gold so very high quality.

The Disc Check didn't flag any errors.

If the HD has a bad sector, it read to that portion and freeze everything. Since you run and didn't flag any errors, then it's not HD. But I'm just speculating that this might be a Power Supply power overload causing other component to receive excessive watt power, which can also freeze up. However this is fairly new power supply, so there is hope you can fix it before trying new power supply. Anyway what is your audio card brand? are you using integrated or dedicated sound card? Go to start, type in dxdiag. Run down your sound card name/version in audio tab.

Also, can you do me a favor, run this to check your power as to why you can't put computer to sleep.

Start, find Accessories, right-click command prompt "Run as administrator". In command prompt, type "powercfg /requests" . It will scan and report any services are running in background that is not allowing computer to put to sleep.

Hello,

I cannot do this for a few days now as I'm going away. Can you wait until Monday until I do the above tasks.

Thanks,

Nevica

My soundcard is onboard the MOBO. Please see attachment.

Please also see attachment regarding powercfg /requests command.

There don't appear to be any problems.
