Don't know if this is the best place for this question. Please direct me if in error.

Just wondering what happens when a hard drive is sleeping when a scheduled event is to take place. For example, a backup or a defrag?

If it is asleep, perhaps it can be woken up. Don't know. Just wondering what the issues are.

Usually an event will "wake up" your system. Thats my experience anyway.

Well I ran a test the other night, and unless I set it up wrong, it didn't wake up my hard drive. I have an internal C drive on my laptop and an External USB drive.

Win 7 is new to me however, so it is possible it was not a valid test. The test I did had to do with a scheduled Defrag on the External drive.

Try running the test on an internal one, as the USB one doesnt really go into sleep mode.
