I recently bought a windows 7 computer and im downloading some of my steam games at night. The only problem is that it goes into sleep mode or something after a while. How do you turn this off ?

This is one way to learn how to enable or disable hibernation.
There is another zip program you can use but let's try the above first.

As well as disabling Hibernate I would change the Power options.
GoTo > Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Power Options. Under Show additional plans choose High Performance. Your computer should never turn off unless you physically do so.
