Hi all
since the number of updates for W7 has reached a number where a Service Pack is being developed are there any methods of "Slipstreaming" W7 installations like we could do with XP -- add the updates, service packs, new drivers etc etc.

I'd love to be able to integrate user drivers into the installation disk -- remember nlite for XP.

A W7 equivalent would be really brilliant IMO.

For many, it's not really needed anymore. Years ago we didn't have high speed broadband links and it would take "forever" to update when an OS was installed. I just reinstalled Vista on an old PC (last Saturday) and after the install, it took about 30 minutes to update all the patches. Not what I would call a "hassle".

vlite does work but is very limited on what it can do plus the forum for it has about died and gets very little support now.

Hi there
I agree about the internet being fast etc etc -- but the main problem is not downloading per se -- but to FIND what you actually need to download first.

Having something like the old Driver packs system didn't actually make the install process much more bloated - and it saved a LOT of work researching and re-installing drivers again - also you could deploy the install disk on a LOT of hardware with all the drivers readily available.

This is how it USED to work for XP -- I think however because of the usefulness of the project in the past it's now being maintained / updated for Windows 7 including X-64.

News | DriverPacks.net

(This is for adding drivers - of course the updates / Service packs for W7 will have to be added in too).

I remember integrating SP1 into Vista using Vlite, the integration process was pretty cool. My CPU and memory was being bounced around like never before. It did save a lot of time reinstalling Vista because you could skip the SP1 download which took quite a while.
