Slow Boot due to uninstall problem

I had Discord (Gamers chat prog) but had issues with it and decided I no longer want it on my system. But getting rid of it is proving a problem as it's now causing a slow boot. I have done the usual Uninstall with Programs and Features, but it left a lot of junk on my system. I deleted the files under AppData and LocalData directories and checked to see if there were any stray registry entries named Discord.

However, it is taking a while to boot up so I assume there is something hanging around which is causing a problem. My question is, how and where can I see what is dragging my system? I assume this is in Event Viewer, but unless I'm missing something, it's hard to see exactly what the issue is.

Thanks in advance.

If I were on your computer I more than likely could get rid of all its traces. But what you might try to do is reinstall Discord, yes, reinstall it. Then download and run the free and portable version of Revo Uninstaller. In Revo, uninstall Discord, scan for any registry left overs and file/folder left overs. Due make sure you look and read what left overs Revo Uninstaller presents to you for possible removal. Some registry and/or files/folders you may not need to remove and may be related to other software. But if the path for the registry, files and folders are related to Discord, you can more than likely remove them without issue. Do make sure Revo Uninstaller creates a system restore point prior to uninstall.

Now if after you follow my advice with reinstalling Discord and using Revo Uninstaller to get rid of it and your computer still bots slow, then I may have some other options you can try.

It hasn't worked. I can only assume Discord isn't the issue. Is there any (easy) way of reading the Event Log to see what is causing the issue?

One symptom I have noticed when I boot up, there is a "Please Wait" for about 20 secs before the log in screen, which used to play a little tune, log in and there is another Please Wait delay before desktop appears when it used to be more-or-less instantaneous.

That sounds like a Windows update or something like that, but I could be wrong.

Why don't you run the program Autoruns from here and zip the ARN file and upload that zip here and I'll take a look.

Is Discord completely removed now?

Sorry for delay in responding, but I have had to replace my graphics card which suddenly died.

I have completely removed Dischord as well as a few others which I suspected may have been causing the issue. However, I still have the problem. Not only that, but occasionally when I get past the log in screen, it will open desktop with a 'Safe Mode' appearance along with a "Failed to Connect to a windows service" error. I shutdown and it hangs for 10 mins before it all closes, but usually it will come back as normal after reboot, along with the long "Please wait".

I have been through all the basic stuff like SFC and scandisk for error checking, but cannot find anything. I have been looking at Task Scheduler and found there is a series of Task Image is corrupt or has been tampered with" errors - could this be the issue?

Anyways, I have an Autoruns report which could be helpful.

Can you go into your Event Viewer under Windows Logs and right click Application and chose to Save All Events As and do the same thing for System.

I'd like to see if what I'm seeing in the Autoruns file has and bearing on some errors.

Also, in Autoruns under the WMI tab, BVTConsumer should be on. Check that off.

I've zipped up the Event View files, if you could kindly look and have reset the BVTConsumer tickbox.

Can you go into safe mode and uninstall iTunes and something called zDoom using RevoUninstaller.

Revo Uninstaller Free - Remove unwanted programs easily

Make sure that when you use RevoUninstaller you only delete registry and files related to zDoom and Apple/Bonjour.

To get into safe mode, keep pressing the F8 key when the computer starts. Chose the first safe mode option. Don't chose with networking, etc.

I have removed ITunes and Bonjour and got rid of ZDoom (A shareware prog which launches the old Doom game).

It has hasn't made it better, but now Chrome, my default browser, refuses to start.

I have run Event Viewer again, but filtered it down to the last bootup, hoping this may help.

Thanks again.

It's looking like Windows is still trying to use zdoom.exe

Download Everything.exe and look for zdoom.exe If it's still there delete it.

It also looks like you have a multitude of other issues which may or may not be related to Bonjour or zdoom.

Downloads - voidtools

Also, run Autoruns again and post the ARN file.

Something else. Run Process Explorer, go to File and save as the file and upload here. Process Explorer - Windows Sysinternals | Microsoft Docs

I have deleted everything I could find zdoom with Everything.exe and have run Autoruns again as well as Process Explorer.

Hopefully, this may reveal something.

Many thanks again.

I'm not seeing anything out of the ordinary with your processes and Auto runs files. Can you run another Event Viewer log again please.

There were in fact zDoom related files found in Everything.exe ? Even after you properly uninstalled it?

I have run Everything.exe and deleted all references to Zdoom. Running it again, I can't see it anywhere. I run Event Viewer again (attached) and can see nothing relating to Zdoom, as well as Autoruns. As nothing can see it, I assume it's well and truly deleted.

I have run Event Viewer again, going back last 12 Hrs.

Many thanks.

I'll look at your log in more detail tomorrow my time. A quick glance at it reveals you having several issues which I'll have to research. In the mean time go into the start orb bottom left and in the search box type in cmd. Right click CMD and open as administrator. Now in the black DOS-like box type in the following: sfc /scannow

Note the space after sfc and before the /.

Many thanks for that. I should say I have done exactly that several times, with no issues found (One of the first things I tried when this all happened.) But I'll give it another whirl just in case.

Many thanks again.

Okay, first try to resolve an issue I'm seeing in your error log regarding Internet Explorer.

Go into your registry by entering regedit in search and right cling it and opening as Admin.

Now find this path:
Code:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa
Now find the fipsalgorithmpolicy folder.

If it's set to 1 set it to 0 (that's a zero) and restart the computer.

Follow the instructions here related to another error I see. Peer Networking Grouping | Windows Forum

Your Samsung printer may or may not be an issue, but just in case, follow the instructions here on first exporting those keys and then deleting them. Event ID 7000 | PeteNetLive

Thanks for that. I now have my Chrome back. I have done the registry change for the Samsung printer, but I it doesn't appear to have made any difference.

Thanks again.
