Slow Downloads

I just bought a new Toshiba Satellite L655D Laptop
it came with 3gb ram 2.10ghz 320gb hard drive. it runs great but when I try to download videos they are usually no greater then 2gb and it takes about 5-7 hours. is this normal?

This depends on a lot of factors, such as the speed you get from your ISP and the server you download those videos from.

My ISP is Comcast Blast so it is one of there faster services. How would I be able to tell the speed of the server?

I doubt that you are allowed such a thing. If you have multiple servers to choose from when downloading a file, switch it and see if the speed improves.

what about upgrading my Ram, do you think this would help with download speeds at all.

Thanks for all your help, as you can see I am kinda new to the whole understanding computers and speeds and pretty much everything else.
So what does RAM actually do for your computer then? and I forgot to mention that the vids I am downloading are all high def, could this play a factor of slow downloads?

since you are new to computers i will be very simple with what RAM (Random-Access Memory) means, it is similar to a humans short term memory, it deals with the current tasks that you are running, and all the data is cleared off it when you shut down the computer. (the more RAM the faster applications will work and more tasks can be running at the same time)
yes the high def videos can change the download speed
