Slow downloads

Hi,
I have recently started using a Windows 7 laptop and I am increasingly concerned by the slow download speeds I am experiencing.
I have a 20MB broadband package and speed testers on my laptop confirm that I am getting close to this. However, when I download anything (e.g. games, drivers etc.) the downloads are very slow with an average transfer rate of approx 60 kbps.

I also have an i-mac on my network and downloads from the same sites are considerably faster.

Is this a Windows 7 problem - or can anyone shed any light on this?

Thanks

It depends on the connection like the poster above has said. If you have Wireless, check your signal indicated by the 4 green bars. If you are using wired then the problem would most likely stem from your ISP (internet service provider).

Hi - thanks for the replies.

It is a wireless connection - with all (five) bars showing. The i-mac which gets downloads at a good speed is also on wireless on the same network. They are never used for downloading at the same time as I am the only user.

Thanks

Hi - I'm not sure what you mean by setting download speeds within the programme. The downloads are coming through Internet Explorer and not any other programme. I don't think there is anywhere in the options for Internet Explorer 8 that allow you to set download speeds?
Thanks

What model of router are you using for this Manster? Have you attempted to update the firmware yet?
