I have tryed Remote Differential compression, changing of services (turning off), updated lan driver and changed duplex but still no good,

the PC I am copying the file from is a windows XP SP2 machine and running through a netgear switch, previous Digilink,

Can anyone help me get this working properly?

Atheros L1 Gigabit ethernet

I have had many problems with Netgear Switches. They are inexpensive and work great until you try to do some more than average data transfers.

If your drivers are upto date on both machines, you have CAT5e or better cables between the machines and to the switch and you are still getting poor performance the switch may be the cause. However other factors are: How fast the machine that is writing/reading the data can do it. If the machine you are writing/reading the data to is using Windows XP SP2 and has an old 5900RPM drive with a small buffer then that can be your problem. Replacing that drive with a new 7200RPM drive and a large buffer will improve your speed immensely.

Those specs look good on the Windows 7 machine. What does the Windows XP SP2 machine look like? Is there are reason you have not added SP3 to your Windows XP machine? Make sure your network drivers are up to date on the Windows XP machine.

The reason that SP3 is not installed is because it crashes the system and some directorys do not work after, SP2 will do just fine, when Windows 7 was on XP it had blazing speeds of around 80-90mb from one pc to the other, I originally had Windows 7 on my machine but changed it to XP, then just came back to windows 7, I feel as though this is a constant problem within Windows 7.

Any other steps I can take?, Maybe run some programs to return information back to people on this board?

Are your drives 7200RPM? How upto date are the NIC drivers? Are you using CAT5e wiring? Again I have had issues with the Netgear Devices, are you able to swap with another switch for testing?

I think I have found the problem, It may be a problem with the max TCP connections at which my machine can have, is there anyway to increase this?

Are you transferring via wireless? Most wireless will have a burst speed and then drop off quite a bit.
