my computer doesn't seem to be processing things as fast as it should be. with some things, it's very fast, with others it's pathologically slow. i replaced the system drive and gave it a totally fresh install of windows, have updated all drivers, etc. in an effort to fix this problem. i turned to yall for help like 8 years ago and people showed up so i'm just hoping someone will have the spare time and insight to help this time too.

thank you. please let me know any additional information you need.

You have no idea what a SSD can improve your computer.
SSD is almost 6 times faster than a HDD.
If you want to improve the performance of your computer, install a small SSD (120G) for windows and programs and use the HDD for data.
You will have the speed of a SSD and the space of a HDD at low cost (~US$50).

Thank you! It seems my problems, however, run deeper than ever imagined:

"The system found unauthorized changes on the firmware.operating system or UEFI drivers.

Press [n] to run the next boot device,or enter directly to BIOS setup if there are no other boot devices installed.

Go to BIOS Setup -> Advanced > Boot and change the current boot device into other secured boot devices."

My boot device is a fresh installation of Windows on my C drive. An SSD might be nice but first I gotta get the computer to turn on. :(

Last night installed Windows 7 Home Premium onto a new 3tb hdd, and got a bunch of drivers installed, and then today I had to relocate the PC / change out the monitor. Been getting the above error since that shutdown and relocation. Thanks for any help!

Win 7 isn't compatible with secure boot so must be set as disabled on BIOS.

Thank you! That fixed that part of our struggle, and we were able to get back into Windows.

Now we're still having some trouble, occasional hanging (in Firefox) when there's not really a lot going on, and we're trying to try to get some games running. We started with Hearthstone and World of WarCraft; the latter ran less smoothly than I'd expect for my system, and Hearthstone didn't manage to launch at all, throwing up a long error log instead.

Also, the system seems to be saying that only 2g of RAM are available, but there are 8g of RAM installed (2x4), but I'm not having luck finding out where to fix this/how to fix it

Thanks again!

To solve the memory problem you must fist begin to look how much memory is seen by BIOS.
If BIOS reports 4+4 than is Windows problem, otherwise is a hardware problem.
Use HWinfo application. Download and expand to a folder. Run the application (don't need to install)
HWiNFO - Download

thank you so much for your continued help!

I got a result of 8 GB memory on HWiNFO.

Memory: 8192 MBytes @ 668 MHz, 11-11-11-28
- 4096 MB PC12800 DDR3 SDRAM - A-DATA Technology DDR3 1600G
- 4096 MB PC12800 DDR3 SDRAM - A-DATA Technology DDR3 1600G

Any idea how to proceed from here? It looks like windows is recognizing the RAM. This is a fresh everything - fresh hdd, fresh install, if that helps. Even though we've gotten it to boot, most programs hang after a while and don't respond to anything but killing it. Sometimes it all hangs for a while (minutes) and then comes back.Overall still unusable :( thanks again. sorry to be so vague, I wish I had concrete errors to give

Normally all problems you described are related to drivers.
Open Device Manager and look for missing drivers.
