Slow SATA drive

Hey guys,

So im new here, this is my fist post.

Was wondering if i could grab some help. My PC was starting to get full, so i decided to add in another 400gb SATA drive i had laying around, but it seems to be really slow. I intended to use this drive for storing all my music and movies, but it takes ages to load the files and when i go to play one it stops, skips, buffers. My main HD is a SATA and works fine, i also have another 250gb IDE HD hooked in and it works fine. It just seems to be this new SATA one that i have inserted.

I have tried deleting the partition, and doing a quick format... i was told doing a full format wouldnt make a difference, and i have defragged, but its not making a difference. Any software? that might be able to fix this issue?

You didn't say what kind of drive it is and your system specs aren't filled out but- most Manuf. of HD have a free testing tool you can download from their web site. Seagate's is Seatools and Western Gigital's is called Windig. I would try that first just to make sure the drive is operating correctly. If that doesnt help, try changing sata cables and ports. As silly as that seems, sometimes it works.
