With SSD, my Lenovo has usually started up super fast. But recently I have had problems. I get to the log-in screen quickly, but once desktop comes up, things slow down:
- it is taking longer for wifi to connect
- once connected, nothing works for quite a long time - sometimes over 5 min.
- Hitting Ctrl/Alt/DEl does nothing - sometimes later screen does come up, but too late to see what might be running
- Sometimes have to shut down using ON button or pulling battery.
- Eventually after a slow start, thing get back to normal.

I eliminated some startup items. Googledrive sync?(2 entries), Skype and something that just said default
Seems better. I always had Skype in there. Recently Google said to upgrade Googledrive. Don't know what default is but after deleting it, it just comes back. It is in HKLM\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and there is just blank line.

That is where I am.

Decided to run SFC /verifyonly - Received this message:

Verification 100% complete.

Windows Resource Protection found integrity violations. Details are included in

the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log
Tried to access that log but get message: Access denied! How do I overcome that? I was able to run SFC with administrator rights, but not read the log? Tried opening it from cmd with admin rights - still no luck.

Decided to run SFC /Scannow

C:\Windows\system32>sfc /scannow

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.
Verification 100% complete.

Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired
them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For
example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

Says it was repaired! But still don't know how to access CBS.log.

That worked! Thanks. Problem now is to interpret just what was done. But seeing SFC said it fixed some issues, perhaps I will first see if problem has gone.

Glad to have SFC find and repair some errors. But slow start was, it seems, something else.

I have two printers. One an old HP 870Cxi that I sometimes use for B&W document printing. Some time back it jammed and would not run, so I switched to newer printer. However, there was still one print job waiting and the old printer was set as the default. USB connection was also disconnected. I suspect system was bogged down trying to figure this out.

Well, I hope that is what it was. Last two starts were good.
