Slow transfer rate from HDD to USB

Hello everyone, I'm a newly registered member here and first of all I'd like to apologise if I am doing something wrong with posting this here; I would like to get some feedback as soon as possible because it's something kind of urgent, thanks

Ok, so I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on my Computer(...) and I have recently found a problem that's pretty annoying: The file copying is really-really slower than on Windows XP and I mean that if I want to copy a folder which is about 650MBs over to a USB Flash Drive it takes about 1 day(what??) and the transfer rate is like 300KB/s. I have tried to look for solutions on the Internet but they haven't turned out handy. Could someone please help me asap as I need to give the USB to someone in a couple of hours?

Flash drives are very variable in their write speed and are particularly slow when writing large numbers of small files. You may perhaps get better speed using XCOPY or ROBOCOPY from the command line.

Did you load Windows 7 onto this machine yourself? If so, did you make sure and download all of the appropriate drivers from the Manufacturer's website for your motherboard?

Test the speed of the stick - e.g. with Atto or HD Tune. Atto has the advantage that you see the R/W speeds for the different blocksizes. With HD Tune you get the response time too but only an average transfer rate.
