Slow Windows7 Ultimate-64 BIT performance

Hey there, I got this new laptop that I now had for a month or more, everything ran well for a while, performance was amazing and incredible, but I believe the laptop caught a virus and I had to re-install windows, so I got a windows 7 ultimate-64 bit version. I updated drivers through the INTEL driver updating thing, and I updated all drivers without problem. But then I noticed slow performance, in fact, terrible. All applications lagged horribly, most of the games that worked before didn't work at all, even the ones that work on my other really old laptop. I tried uninstalling useless stuff but it was not helpful. Any idea why performance would drop out of a sudden? Thanks in advance.

I bought the disk off a nearby store, not quite sure how to know if windows was updated or not.

1. Click rb:
2. Then hover your mouse over All Programs for a few seconds, then find and click Windows Update in that list.

It says the latest updating was yesterday, but there is 1 important update. I will see if updating it does anything good.

You changed from Professional to Ultimate right? Did you validate your installation with the COA sticker underneath your laptop?

Sorry but I don't remember clearly what the first Windows7 was, but I don't remember going through anything related to a COA or a sticker on my laptop. Yet again, I wouldn't say it is related to that, because I used this for like 3 other laptops and they all run fine.

I'm afraid your installation is counterfeit - you have an ACER OEM installed to a DELL. Since many counterfeit installations come seeded with malware (this could explain the laggy performance) you should:

1. Completely wipe your hard disk, and
2. Re-install your original Windows 7 installation.
3. Seek a refund from the store you purchased this licence at.
