I just did a fresh reinstall of windows 7

When I look in device manager the driver for SM Bus Controller is missing and the "update driver" doesn't fix it.

Can someone help me find the correct driver.

Hi jjim26,

You need to install chipset driver on the system. It would be best to go to your system manufacturer website and select your system to install all relevant drivers.

If you are unable to find the same let us know the system model and make and we would try to locate the drivers for you.

If you have any queries feel free to reach out to us.

I am having the same problem with a missing SM Bus Controller. I did a clean install of Windows 7 today XP, but bizarrely all my files are still on the hard drive, and the previous edition has been moved to Windows.old. However, the install has got rid of the drivers for the SM Bus Controller, which means I have no internet....! Are the drivers still on the hard drive somewhere..? Help...!

Hi Welcome to Seven Forums ... If you can Post the Model Number of your Computer .. I will give you a Link which you can Download the Lan Driver ... Hopefully you are using another Computer to Post here if so you can then use a Flash Drive to transfer the File .. Then you can Run Windows Updates which should supply you with most of the Drivers you need ..

Hi thanks for the quick reply. The computer I have is a Mesh Elite M800 3.0 GHZ. It's a totally standard computer with no mods. I didn't think this would be so much grief..! The computer is about 10 years old, but still runs fine. It's connected by cable to a Virgin Media hub and I can use my lap top off of the wi-fi signal from the hub.... Does any of this help..?

No error code.... Just that the set up would not complete.... Yes, I am trying the driver so that Windows 7 will connect to the net. I am now thinking that Windows 7 drivers are not supporting this motherboard..?

You are right there it is just to old .. But lets try the following ..

1. Place the driver installation file on the Desktop.

2. Right Click the driver installation file and select Properties/Compatibility Tab. select xp

3. Click Apply/OK.

4. Right Click the file and select the Run As Administrator option to install.

I've given up on it for today, as my brain is about to pop..! I'll look again tomorrow evening... The USB ports work, as I've been using them to copy across files etc. It it cost effective to get a wireless adapter or get a new motherboard..? I don't want to spend over the odds, as all I want is the internet to work..!! Thanks.....
