Small but irritating problem with Office 2002

Hi, all! I came here for help with a more serious issue which I posted about in the General forum, but while I'm here, I might as well ask another question that's been bugging me.

I still use Office 2002 most of the time. It seems to work fine with newer versions of Windows, but there's one little glitch that bugs me - opening or closing the "Find and Replace" dialog box is very slow. On Windows XP, it would pop up more or less instantaneously. Since I upgraded to Vista, it crawls up the screen over the course of several seconds, and back down again when I close it. This behaviour has remained the same under Windows 7, even on an otherwise much faster and more powerful machine than I ever ran XP on.

Anyone know a fix, or at least an explanation, for this issue?

Hello jheikkinen and welcome to the forums

I've never heard of this before and I can't seem to find anything that vaguely resembles your problem elsewhere on the internet.

Have you considered upgrading to a more recent version of MS Office? If you are eligible for a student discount then you can pick up a copy of MS Office Pro Plus 2010 for £37.89 from here:

Microsoft Office Student Offer 2010 Home Software Download UK | Software4Students.co.uk

I know people are hesitant about buying software (or in fact anything) from unknown websites, so here's proof that its a reputable seller:

The site in question only ships to UK addresses. I'm in Canada. In any case, I do have a much newer version of Office, in both the Home & Student and Professional editions (the latter was a gift from someone with some Microsoft connections). I don't care for them, in particular the "ribbon" interface makes me want to burn things.

Compatibility mode didn't change anything made things worse rather than better - the same problem still occurs, and in addition, it prevented me from opening documents by clicking on them, as opposed to doing so from within Word.

Any other suggestions?
