SMBus Cotroller

In my Device Manager The Intel (R) ICH9 Family SMBus Controller-2930 shows no driver installed yet under driver it list a MicroSoft driver. If you do a driver update it says best driver installed. There is no yellow exclamation mark by it. I was making a Win PE disk and it said I had no driver for this item to load. What does this item do and do I need it? Windows 7 Pro 64 bit.

A SMBus controller is your CPU (Pretty much)

Have you tried to Uninstall the driver then restart the machine?

No I haven't tried uninstalling it yet cause I wanted to find out what it did first. My CPU is an Intel (R) Core (TM) 2 Quad CPU Q9550 @ 2.83 GHz. I clicked properties on this device and updated the driver. I selected browse for my driver and there was one listed and I installed it and it said it installed OK but it still says there is no driver installed and there is one listed under driver. Maybe I don't need this.

Have you noticed this before? Did you insert any new Hardware into your computer?

Do you have the Intel chipset drivers loaded? If so, you might need the Intel Management Engine driver for your chipset.
