Just heard this on the radio.
Tens of thousands of organisations have been caught out by a computer virus called WannaCry. The malicious software locks data away and demands a payment of up to $300 (£230) a time before it will restore scrambled files.
The ransomware causing chaos globally - BBC News
Keeping up to date. Well, some do and some don't.
From the article.
In this case, a patch to close the bug has been available since 14 March but many organisations have clearly failed to apply it in time.

I guess regular system images should enable you to recover your OS partition. I also guess data drives and partitions are are only as safe as the last backup. Don't keep system images on connected data drives!

You got it Michael.
The things that many have been posting for a long time.
Regular Backup/Clones.
Keep Backup/Clone drives unhooked from the computer when not needed.
Of course be careful what you tick on and be careful with email.
Once big companies, private or governments went mobile, they opened up a new bag of worms.
