Knew this was coming. We're about 15miles NW of Harrisburg, PA and wanted to share. Any other members that are in this storm's path experiencing this, including our Southern members that experienced the T-Storms and Tornadoes. All are welcome to share your stories, and pictures,

These were all taken about 1pm EST (17:00Z) when we had 24", unofficially; We're now up to 30" at our house as I post this at 6:11pm EST (11:11Z). 28.5" officially.

You're welcome, looks like you're pushing 12" back home, the wife likes snow, but I've outgrown it; Wish we were in FL .

I left out WV, I noticed on the news reports there's a town Glengary, West Virginia that got 40" (1.016m) our 30 would put us at .762m.

Animals seem to like snow. My German Shepherds jumped into snow that was higher than them.

Pretty wild read 30" due to most of the east coast :shock:

I believe most would see up to 70mph winds too for good measure.

I remember when I lived in Binghamton, NY - one night we had a blizzard. In the morning when I went downstairs the rooms were dark because the snow covered most of the windows. We were stuck for 3 days because nobody could plow us out. Our driveway was very long (3.5 acre lot). I had a big Oldsmobile 88 convertible which was completely useless on the snow. But my little Fiat 500 that I had bought for $300 was unstoppable. That had a rear engine and rear wheel drive.

We have 24hours: Snow and Ice Removal – Property owners with a sidewalk are required to clear snow/ice within 24 hours after the end of each snowfall or ice storm. This is for the safety of the public as well as the property owner.

Nice thing is, I don't have any sidewalks.

Just havin' a bit of fun TZ.

I did get out last night, It took an hour to clear 18feet, I'm goin' to try and get down to the shed and get started with the blower after I go off-forum in a bit.

Not sure what happened with the camera, might of been batteries or being cold out. Speakin' of cold; I went out to the porch this morning and the outdoor temp was 5° , -15C.



Candy was able to get out this morning and crawled under the car, I imagine to do her "business", you can just barely see her go in, didn't take her long she was back in 'bout 5" later:



This is a pix of the fire hydrant in the front corner of our lot, I called the fire company that I would try to get to it sometime today; Knock on wood... . I believe it's not a law yet to clear them, but the more time it takes them to hook up, the longer a fire burns before they can start fighting it.

About the time you get the sidewalks and fire hydrant cleared a snow plow truck will come by and just cover them up again. Where else can they push the snow to?

Ours aren't that busy Bear (overtime); They've been on 12hour shifts since Thursday, and all our spaces seem to be full, these pixs are in no particular order.

Anak, that's all interesting but, is it normal sort of weather and snow you get each year I wonder ?

We, here in Europe have been told, we had the two warmest years ( 2014 and 2015 ) since taking records.

Now we could start a very interesting thread on global warming ?
True or not ?
Are we to blame with our cars and airplanes and industries or, is it a normal thing that happens every " so many years ", sort of normal wave to the way it all happens around our little planet ?

Can tell you something interesting. There is an old farm here in my valley in Tirol. The people know when after the winter the sun hits the kitchen window for the first time . Now recently, this has changed almost 69 minutes.

Is this because of the massive lakes they are creating in China ?
Is the spin on our planet slightly getting out of place ?

You pose some interesting questions Thelma.

Our average snowfall is 31.2" and the official depth of Saturday's snowfall was 30.2" so, we have about an inch to go in "x" number of storms to go above that average.

Normal? There are a few weather forums I frequent and the discussion is since 2000, the average snowfall hasn't changed much since 1980, what has changed is the time of year that we get that 31.2", and the severity of the storms.

Back in the day when I was a kid, Winter lasted from the end of December to the last of March and you could expect snow before Thanksgiving in November to April, 1st with December/January the worst.
Nowadays we have the same season, but that snow comes usually the end of January and can last until the end of April with February being the worst so the productive part of the season has shrunk by 10weeks, or 6weeks at the beginning of the season and 4weeks at the end, this past storm is somewhat of an aberration. Without empirical evidence I can say that I have noticed the years from 2010 to now as being the warmest; Fall, Winter, and Spring being compressed from what we normally experience and Summer's warmth expanding into those other three seasons. This past December is the warmest for us since records started being kept back in 1888.

Earth works in cycles not only caused by itself mainly from volcanic activity, but also external influences caused by humans, animals and plants. Is it the start of run away global warming? I don't believe so, but I do believe we are entering or in a new cycle, like you mention; "sort of normal wave to the way it all happens". If we can do something about it, we should for posterity.

Without more information on the geographical and cultural aspects of Triol it would be difficult for me to explain why the residents see a 69minute difference in when the Sunlight hits the farmhouse window.
I would find it hard to believe large lakes or the change in axial tilt and precession would have a recent effect on the Sunlight/window timing, these affects are real, but so minuscule that people would have a hard time noticing them without empirical evidence.

In speculating, it could be the Alps or the farmhouse has shifted in their positions since the observation was first made. When was the observation first made?
Unless documented, traditions have a way of being embellished, but you say "recently", describe recently for me; Since last Winter, 5 to 10 Winters ago, decades? Has anything catastrophic happened to the area in the last several years, say an earthquake, landslide, avalanche?

These people I met on new years eve and it struck me as interesting what they mentioned. Must admit that I thought about these old wooden chalets ( some are over 300 years old ) maybe moving slightly. I will ask more details when I see them again. I remember thinking about places like Stonehenge where the fall of sunlight on the longest day is typical in a certain place and if they have also noticed a difference in recent years.
