I'm in the middle of it. Storyline, scifi aside - the game mechanics are very much 'old school' FPS - the combat sections are nice and solid. Best of all, no NPC's to 'command'
Since it's an id developed game, the core gameplay feels very reminiscent of the Quake series. See enemy, blast enemy, see bigger enemy, blast bigger enemy with bigger gun
And while you may trigger an area that unleashes wave after wave of enemies - they are finite. No COD style 'must progress to checkpoint to stop the limitless enemies shit' which is a welcome change. Much less chance of massacre fatigue.
It's also a 'mini RPG' - ie do side quests, upgrade weapons/armor etc but it's far less 'Stat/perk' intensive than Fallout, Skyrim, Kotor etc. It's very much 'dumbed down' in that regard which makes it a lot more accessible for those who don't really like heavy RPG games.
The driving aspect is okay. It helps break the monotony. Overall, I'm pretty sure there would be parts you'd like and parts you hate. I think the solid FPS style would outweigh the parts you may not like.
