I can't believe what I just did. I uninstalled my beloved Firefox. It's been crashing every few minutes. I also can't believe that I installed Chrome, having tried to stay away from any and all things google. I don't understand what's happened. I really prefer Firefox (also uninstalled Pale Moon). I have done a search on this forum on this problem but can't find anything recent and informative. Your expert advice is always valued. ellenc

take it Palemoon was experiencing the same crashs ??
Assume you did the refresh option.
Personnaly i would remove it totally, that includes the folders in c/programs and c/programs (x86).
(if you just uninstall via progs/features then the reinstall uses the stub left behind in the folder above)


I use another offshoot Waterfox (x64 ONLY)

You mention that you are here for advice, but you also say that you've already uninstalled Firefox.
So, just so that we can better assist you: do you still want help with Firefox, or with some other browser?

If you would like help with Firefox, most Fx performance issues originate in the user's profile, rather than in the program itself. There can be many reasons (hardware acceleration issues, other hardware problems (e.g. insufficient RAM), memory leak, software conflicts, wonky extensions, malware, etc., etc.)

For some helpful advice about how to diagnose and fix the issues, you might start here.
The information provided in those KB topics/tutorials will guide you through stepwise troubleshooting in order to determine the cause and possible solution for the crashes:

Mozilla Crash Reporter
(The folks over at forums.mozillazine.org can analyze your crash reports to help to pinpoint the cause. I'm not sure if anyone here at sf.com specializes in that...)

Quick follow-up question:

Is this the same computer as the one whose specs are listed in your forum profile, running 64-bit Win7 with only 3 GB of RAM???

If so, that *might* be at least part of your problem....

Fx will "take" available RAM to make browsing more efficient.
If you are running several other, resource-intensive programs along with Fx and if you have many open tabs/Windows on content-heavy webpages, you may be running out of memory, causing Fx to crash.

That's just a guess, based on the limited available information.
Normally, one would want at least 4 GB of physical RAM to smoothly run 64-bit Windows 7 + applications.

Try 'installing' (<- not actually installing!) Firefox portable [extracts files to where-ever the exe file is located]. I created a folder = "FFox" & extracted to there. Save old bookmarks as htm(?) copy & paste to "Ffox", open with your new firefox portable & bookmark. (I always end up with sooo many bookmarked pages, I get lost, , , , this way I can click on a link & bookmark it in new FF bookmarks, 'keeping' prefered links)

Portable does NOT modify regestry, deleting that folder "FFox" would completely remove firefox from your computer.
(I still prefer Ffox port. v 29.??, works fine)

I just backup profile regularly using FEBE and if any problems occur do a clean install of Firefox (or variants) and restore old profile. I've been using this method for years.

Thanks ever so much to each of you for your time and helpfulness. This is the same Firefox problem I've posted about before.
I've uninstalled FF and Pale Moon with Revo Uninstaller which removes all leftover stuff.
I've been pretty ill lately and am not sure I'm up to making a thorough check of the profile, etc. Just thought it easier to go with Chrome. I will however install the offshoot Waterfox as suggested.
By the way, I have 8G of RAM in my system so maybe using up memory running FF with other programs is not the problem. I don't usually run resource intensive programs with FF. I mostly just use Word.
As for FEBE, since I've been sick I forgot about FEBE which I used for a long time.
