Having been with Linux for the past few years, become used to nano speeds when doing things, I now find it very slow on Win7.

When I click on any icon it takes 12/15 seconds to load the program, is there anything in Win7 that can be doing this.

Win7 should never hang or bog on adequate hardware with a perfect install. Run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor to see if your hardware is adequate, then test it and work through the other steps from Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7.

Make sure you have close to a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 which steps are the same for retail.

You must be having lots of crapware on your system. System specs would help us much more in solving your issue.

As gregrocker said, Windows 7 runs smooth even on my spec!
