How come many of the downloads for reccomended software are on file hippo not the official website?

I post instructions to use FileHippo because...
...I've never seen that website change a file
(e.g. add stuff to it)
...it is a good place for OPs to learn that past versions of installers might be available
...it has a consistent interface.
(e.g. only change once in many years)

The interface is important for me. Have you seen the threads where the OP downloaded some advertized junk instead of what they were pointed to?

Also, If you send an OP here to get Speccy, I think that the first download link just to be the evil CNET. I see now that Piriform only lists Filehippo and its own servers. I would skip the middle man and point them to Filehippo.

See this post for yet another reason to avoid "the official website". Get the full installer from Filehippo, then go hunt for that same full installer from "the official website". If you find where Google serves up those full installers, bookmark it. Then visit that bookmark a year or two from now and see if the website is still available. Filehippo's link will probably be good a decade from now. I've had links from Filehippo that long.

The same goes for this file. Try and find the full installer for that from "the official website". Why are full installers important? Because I would like the OP to have the installer in case we have to uninstall and re-install a few times during the thread. Some people pay for every byte that they download via their internet service provider. There is no reason to ask them to download Chrome or .NET several times.

I save full installers on a file server because I'll probably be using the file on more than one computer :-)

I'm glad that you asked this question - but I'm not sure what you saw that caused you to ask it. If you are asking because you see a post here and there posting links to Filehippo, then the info posted above might help answer the question. If you saw a post with a long list of things to be downloaded (most of which point to Filehippo), then I suspect the reason is "ease of maintenance". The Filehippo links probably will not age as fast as links to "the official website".

BTW, I don't mean to sound defensive - I just have a lot to say on this topic :-)

I have great luck using FileHippo.
I have is some cases that I won't mention went to the official website of some products and got 4 pickup loads of junk attached.

It's not always that way. It varies from website to website; product to product.

Indeed, some official installers are now on Cnet for instance, and they have their own downloader that adds extras. They sometimes also have a 2nd, clean download, but it is not as obvious. I have found Filehippo to be reliable, and offer clean downloads and more info (and older versions, etc). A Guy

Yes, Imgburn download has been screwed up by ever download site I have found.
That is why I don't recommend it any more.

That site worked for me today. I just ticked that I didn't want all the other things and it went well.
Then I did all my scans again and I didn't pickup anything extra.

Downloaded ImgBurn yesterday and was very careful to uncheck and refuse any extras, of which there were many. No extras showed up but the first thing I did was pull the internet connection and run a FULL scan with MalwareBytes.
Six Opencandy PUP's showed up. They could only have come from IB as I had just run a full scan the evening before and had not gone anywhere else. :(

Once you install the older version of ImgBurn watch out for updates. They come with junk.
Just for testing I downloaded the new version. Unselected all the junk and still got Real Player, Chrome, Optimize Pro, and Sync Folders.
I chose not to download those things and still got them.

It did take some time to find all the places this junk was hiding and removing them.
