All,

About 6 months ago, I obtained an old desktop computer from my dad. The computer is running Windows XP. One day, I decided to delete my dad's user admin account and add my name. Now...every time I attempt to install software, I get this error:

"Windows cannot find C:\Docume~1\userdad~1\Locals~1\Temp.vbs. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search."

Like I mentioned earlier the userdad account was deleted by yours truly. How can I correct this problem so the software can find the temp.vbs file??? When I attempt to add a directory, I get another error:

"Setup was unable to create the directory C:\Documents and Settings\userdad\is-FKVTL.temp"
Error 5: Access Denied

Please help.

Craig

Why post this in a Windows 7 support forum?

How did you delete your dads id? Control Panel, User Accounts or some other way?

Did you create the new user account, logoff, login with the new account, and then delete your dad`s account ?

Was the new account an Admin account ?

How exactly, did you do it ?

I deleted his account by user account and also manually (right click/delete). I did add "userson" as an Admin

I would backup the registry using ERUNT then edit the registry and change all occurrences of userdad to userson.

If something gets messed up then restore the registry backup by running erdnt.exe from the C:\Windows\ERDNT folder.

Regseeker may help with this as it allows you to search the registry for all instances of something. Worked well for me with XP but has not worked will since with Vista and later.
