Software that reports hard drive age?

Anyone know of an app that reports the age (manufacture date) of hard drives?

Note: I don't mean 'Power-On Time': Speccy and Crystal Disk Info will do that.

I know the age data is on the HDD case, but I don't want to open the computer box to examine the drives.

There are 2 ages the actual date it was made and the actual power on time a disk could be made in 2000 but only just opened and the disk age could be afectivly 2 weeks old actual running time

I do not believe that an actual date is included in the SMART data set, which is where I believe all the data relating to usage will be stored, all I can find are run times Etc which are hours since first use or actual operations performed type data.

There is a serial number that is included in the data - If you have a lot of drives you could I suppose refer these to the manufacturer and ask them the build dates for at least the ranges involved.

This is only practical if you are dealing with large numbers of drives for Eg. multi national companies, and these would usually have their own records for purchase and allocation to a user which would provide accurate enough dates for maintenance purposes, ( though actual usage data as is available, would be of more use in this as the wear on an unused drive is negligible)

Barman58, thanks. Yes, I've tried entering actual serial numbers, but as several drives are over five years old, there's little information available from the manufacturers.

No worries, it's no BFD. I was just curious as to whether it was possible to get the construction date by other means than a physical examination.
