The thing that I love about lists like this is that you often find that the majority of software that people feel they cannot live without are the things like antivirus, defraggers, registry cleaners, spyware/malware removal, uninstall utilities, system imaging, benchmarks, etc. So, mostly software to fix problems, recover from problems, or prevent problems. It seems most people don't do all that much with their PC's other than struggle to keep them working.:sarc:

Good point pparks. I do have all of those things first on my list. but in my defense....

If I go boating, there are a few things I require on board

Life vests
Fire extinquisher
Extra rope
A knife
An Anchor
Extra Gasoline
An extra Battery
Fog Horn
Flares
Sunscreen
First Aid Kit
Confirmed Radio check
EPRB

This doesn't sound like a fun boat ride, but all those precautions are the first things I make sure are on my boat.

I should list Swimmies, water-ski's, beach towels, boogie Boards, Water balloons? I don't know what else people usually do on boats....

Whats notepad++ do?

It's just a very elaborate notepad. Can save in a load of different files types. Great for writing code in, as it colour codes the code correctly.

What software can you not do without?
I've been thinking about this, but there is not 1 certain version of something that I couldn't live without. For example, I want/need virtualization software, but I can do that with VMWare Player or VirtualBox. I prefer to use Firefox, but if it were gone, I could use Chrome or Opera. Heck, I don't even need Windows....I can do everything I need to do with a Linux machine.

amen

Where is some wood to knock on? I dont have any of those. Wait, I guess I should count NoScript (Firefox extension) as a protection tool. And I keep a big host file. And I run as a Non-admin User.

I am mostly a user, with an occasional binge of protecting, cleaning, tweaking, mostly for efficiency... My system is set up pretty different, I tend to like the little-used programs, so I think getting a virus would be like getting my pocket picked while hiking in the woods. What sort of pickpocket (virus) would target me?
