To cut down on storage space required, I've been gradually moving all my movie discs (mostly DVDs with a few BDs) from their original cases to storage boxes that hold up to 300 discs each. I've been scanning the covers and any booklets to multipage .tif files before discarding the cases. Each disc gets assigned a disc number to facilitate locating it in the storage boxes. The filename for each .tif uses the following naming format:

[disc number][movie title] - [disc type]

This is an example of how that looks in the directory:

Sort 1.2.JPG

I also added the title of the movie in a Title tag:

Sort 2.JPG

I added the tag, both because that is what most media players read (I'm eventually going to be ripping my movie discs) and so I can sort the files either numerically by disc number in the filename column or by the movie title in the tag column. The first example shows sorting by disc number. The second example shows sorting by movie title in the Title tag column.

What I would like to do is to copy just the movie titles in the Title tag column after sorting alphabetically to the clipboard so I can paste them into a Word doc. Does anyone know how I can do that?

Hi, Lady Fitzgerald,
If I understand correctly, you essentially want to reproduce only the Title portion of the directory into Word. You might try first using an image capture program to reproduce the entire directory, then paste that image into Word and use an online conversion program (many free ones available) to convert the image format to an editable document. Once that is done, insert all data into a table. From there you can eliminate any undesired columns and sort. Brief overview, I know, but am I on the right track?
Good luck!

You are on the right track. However, that is a tedious and clumsy way to accomplish what I want since there are over 500 files to deal with. Not one hour ago, I stumbled on a program called Directory List & Print. I had to buy the Pro version to get the feature that would do what I wanted. Since it ignores any sorting I do in the folder, I had to export the list it created to Excel, sort it alphabetically, then copy and paste it into Word for final formatting and printing (I probably could have done it all in Excel but I'm far more familiar with Word).

Thanks anyway!

I knew my suggestion would have been really laborious and time consuming, and I'm very glad you found something to do the job a lot easier!
