Solve PC Issues Option...

Windows 7 keeps insisting me that I have a problem with Kasperski Anti Virus and the only solution available is to download the latest version. Well, that is all fine and dandy but, the main problem here is... I DON'T HAVE KASPERSKI INSTALLED. :shock:

Why is it telling me this if I never installed it, unless of course, Windows 7 already comes pre installed with it? Windows Defender perhaps is ran by Kasperski?.

How do I get rid of this?

I always run Avast as my anti virus, never kasperski or any other AV... totally bogus and annoying to say the least.

Interesting, not seen that one before - as far as I am aware Defender is an In-house Microsoft creation, but I may be wrong.

If I remember correctly if you select no on the lower options it will provide a feedback option which you could use to inform MS of their error here.

Not a solution I know but at least if a lot of people suffer the same issue reporting it may prompt a cure

Just asking - are all your games legit? I do not need an answer, just a possible connection.

You could uninstall your current AV and check if the problem remains. If it does, install LKspersky - but DO NOT use the link provided. Go there on your own.

Then, properly uninstall Kaspersky in accordance with their directions. Then test if the problem remains.

Then of course, install your preferred AV.

Unfortunately for me, I can not reproduce the error again nor I know how to bring it up again so I can't choose no.

Since I am using RC 7100, I usually try to give MS as much info as I can in hopes that a solution will show up but... nothing so far.

As stated before, I always use Avast as my primary AV, I wouldn't even know where to get Kasperski. I have heard of it, don't get me wrong, I just have not installed it here... ever.

Do you think that if I go to their site, download their FREE AV (if they have any), install it and then Uninstall it, the thing will go away? Well, truth be told, I am also afraid to do that since I know it will probably leave some instance of it in the registry and then, give me a bigger headache... annoying issue for sure, good thing that it happens randomly.

A lot of other antivirus companies use Kaspersky's antivirus kernel and definitions. AVG may be one of them. Perhaps they accidentally left some sort of Kaspersky "tag" on one of their definition updates... someone forgot to replace it with the AVG code. Win 7's security center could have picked up on that "tag" or identification code, and thought you had the full Kaspersky a/v program installed.

One thing that has not been stated is how much of a real problem is this message causing.

If it is a case of just knowing that the message is there and wanting to understand why, (and I can understand the desire to discover a solution for it's own sake ), but the actual message does not actually prevent use of the OS, I would, as you are with the RC and the GA is so close, personally just ignore it.

The message for AV may be switched off in the Action Centre

Obviously if the message is a permanent feature of the desktop, then a solution is needed now.

the possibility does exist of course that this is a rouge message as suggested by Antman, though this would be a more sophisticated type that the vast majority of such malware. A full scan with the likes of malwarebytes and Spybot S&D may be a good idea

OK but again... I am nor I have ever used AVG on this OS since I first installed it.

The error is always there from time to time (Action Center, White flaf bottom right of Taskbar), more so when I have BSODs or my wife resets the computer to get to her Vista OS instead of restarting the normal way.

Yeah, it is just a nag not to know why is there more than anything else... I have this thing against not knowing what causes it

I wouldn't know where to switch it off... care to enlighten me a bit more?

I have already run Avast and MalwareBytes and they both didn't find anything.

Oh well, I have a brand new copy of the latest RTM so I may have to do a fresh install and be done with this one.

Yep. You did write "avast". For some reason, I read it as AVG. Sorry!

As it is, it doesn't make much difference. Kaspersky doesn't provide the a/v kernel for either of those two, though they do license it to many other a/v a/s companies according to wiki.

As in, it might be a glitch in the RC. Just changing over to the RTM will probably fix it.

Ahhhh, ok, thanks for the explanation lordbob.

Yeah, I have been procrastinating & dreading this change for about 2 or 3 weeks. I also need to go from Vista to XP as there are some issues with Vista. In no so simple terms Vista + Wifey = No love for AstaLaVista

The issues are more impediments than anything else. I have an old Umax Astra Firewire scanner that Vista just doesn't want to support (or rather the other way around), the scanner works beautifully and it is super fast. I also can't install a small printer she uses to print photos, this last one is more because I don't want to spend on cartridge than driver/software issue but still, XP didn't have a single hiccup installing it.

Also, since I only use Win 7 myself now, there is no need for me to have Vista as a Second x64 OS, XP does what I want, the wife is happy, the home network is also happy (kids PCs are on XP)... as well

Sorry to comeback to this post after so much time has passed but, even now with the new RTM copy of Win 7 Ultimate 64, the annoying message is still there.

Something tells me that I am going to have to install the Full Retail version of Windows 7 to see if it goes away but it boggles the mind as to why a clean Win 7 install keeps giving me the same message. I only have Avast & Malwarebytes installed. I even disabled Windows Defender so it wouldn't conflict with Avast.

It may very well be an application I run that does this but I can't put my finger on it, less so now that I barely have apps installed.

Aside from this little nag and the gateway disconnect from time to time, I really love this OS but it is getting the better of me.

Well, I am happy to announce that the issue has been solved. It turned out to be one of the applications I use, for some reason, it uses the file and somehow, win 7 confuses it with kasperski.
