Solved my laggy HD performance in Win7!

First off I want to punch M$ is the face yet again for defaults that cause performance issues, that turned out to be the problem, new ones, that having not used Vista I had never heard of before.

Solution 3: Turn Off Remove Differential Compression
Eh....Remove Differential Compression is not causing the issue AT ALL nor did it ever cause it.

Solution 4: Disable TCP/IP “Receive Window Auto-Tuning” and/or “Receive Side Scaling”
This can in fact slow things down. The reason this might slow things down is because the hardware in between you and the client is broken or poorly configured. However if hardware is not an issue, having these on improves network utilization and push more bits down.

"TCP receive window size" what this does allows a TCP packet to hold more information. Otherwise the max a packet can carry is 64K. But window scaling can push it to 1 GB. (in theory) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TCP_window_scale_option

Solution 6: Turn Off Windows Search
Solution 7: Turn Off Indexing Services
Solution 8: Disable Thumbnail Preview
Solution 9: Turn Off IPv6 Support
These are not the cause of the slowdown nor will turning them off fix it.

Most of the suggestions in that article are bogus.

Except the OP never tested which one actually worked. From his post I can only assume he did everything starting at number three. So which one solved the problem? Blindly turning things off without understanding and finding the true cause is of no help.

the only time i can see this working is copying or moving to a old NAS or Net share and even this shouldn't do much (unless you really have a old or weird weird router/NAS/NIC)...
although if you are copying or moving large file (i mean on the GB scale) Teracopy is a good solution for this
