I had given up on sleep working right. I can put it to sleep using a shortcut but then during the night it would wake. I finally gave up on solving this.

Then 2 days ago I updated my soundcard drivers and that night the system went into sleep on its own and was still asleep when I got up. I thought "GREAT!". It didn't last though and last night it did not go into sleep on its own. :(

Other than trying out some software yesterday, the only thing different from the night before was that my USB connected printer was on. Could that have been the culprit? I don't really know how to check this. I did run the Powercgf -ENERGY command and posted below are the errors it notices. Could someone that understands this stuf take a look and offer some advice or a good troubleshooting guide for me?

Sincere Thanks
Jess

Both your sound card (Creative X-Fi Audio Processor), and your printer (HP Color LaserJet 2550 series) are preventing sleep. The printer isn't going to sleep itself (suspend), and why the sound card is interfering...you don't have iTunes or another program like it running when you try to put it to sleep?

Not that Im aware of, Just went to my startups and nothing there. A few apple type services for bonjour and such but no itunes. I do have PlayOn on but all the same programs were running the night I had upgraded my soundcard drivers and it worked for just that one night. No idea what changed the next day :(

Like I said, I can atleast put it to sleep manually, its just the automatic sleeping I can't figure out. Am going to reboot before bed, then put it to sleep, and if its up when I wake I'll run the powercfg -lastwake command and post back what it says.

Yes, you can also try this:

powercfg –devicequery wake_armed

Well, I decided to search over at CL's forums and discoved some complaints about Dolby features on the cards causing sleep problems for others with the beta of Win7. That got me thinking since I connect my DirectTV DVR to the optical in on my card. I went in and turned off my cards SPDif out under playback and the cards digital in under recordings. Then ran the -Energy command and the warning/error was gone and my machine went to sleep just peachy. Which of the 2 actually did the trick I'm not sure but, at a guess I am going to suspect it was having the spdif out enabled personally. My suspicion is it assumes, if I have that enabled then whatevers hooked up to it needs the card functioning, but it could of been the digital in to be fair. I'll experiment later today and report back if I confirm this. At least now my system takes more naps and sleeps than I do so am happy.

EDIT: There was one other thing I did which was to disable the wake from timers option. However, is there a guide on how to veiw all my current wait timers and perhaps change them so they all do there thing during the day when my system is up? I tried looking at the task scheduler but, at least for me, making heads or tails out the info from there is more difficult than reading the Dead Sea Scrolls. Is there an easier to understand app or commandline I can use to view all the one that currently exist on my system?
